Note to Readers: This post is unusual in being about sex and ecstasy as everyday features, more or less, of adult life, even in dystopia. Like all other posts, it is very imperfect, this time with at least some pieces of the bias particular to a heterosexual male. Proceed accordingly, hopefully with recognition and joy.

Sexual Embodiment
The first dimension of sexual ecstasy is sensations of arousal in your body’s genitals, sensations of increasing blood flow in pelvic interiors building an erection (male or female) and stimulating glands that send out flows of their own sexual juices. It feels good when the glands warm up and get their excretions going. Erections are distinctly pleasurable and come with increasing and pleasing sensitivity in tissue structures around the head of the penis and in the clitoris. This is already a lot of pleasure, and we haven’t even mentioned the building of arousal toward orgasm. In these sensations of arousal there is already a personal sense of the beauty and power of your own particular embodiment as an expression of sexual pleasure. The feeling of being pretty and enjoyable both to yourself and to others, of the power in being exciting and alluring to others.
The Gaze and Caress of a Lover
On a second look at sensations of sexual embodiment what stands out is how those sensations can be triggered and amplified by the hungry looks, the embrace, and the caresses of a lover, the lover’s overt worship and passionate desire made real in patterns of attention, touch, and kisses. Much of sexual ecstasy is in the awakening and arousal, by the startling attention and touch of a lover, of the full potential of what was already latent in anyone’s body.
The Strange and Beautiful Species of Others
Sexuality is its own form of valence, a force of attraction between opposites, with the compelling mystery of the physical complementarity of opposite sexes. Perfectly ordinary and familiar as companion spirits, with worries, talents, appetites, and unique arcs of expression into a shared future, this other species among us is perfectly alien in their bodies. The strangeness is still just nature with every claim to the beauty of nature, yet its beauty is set apart and made vivid by a deep and undeniable otherness. Curvy feminine beauty is treasured by everybody, all genders, but heterosexual males and many females are smitten by the tidal pull and captivation of the particular sexual features of women. There is intense curiosity and attraction along with an excited desire to attract attention back, a felt need to be seen as, and be considered exciting as, a person moved by a semi-secret appetite for the sexual charms of certain other people and then especially of a specific other person, the appetite to touch and to be touched, silently calling out for a matching appetite coming back from the other. There is a crux of the matter here. It is a recognition of the excited pleasure that another person takes in your sexual appetite for them that singles out that particular person as ‘the one’ with whom intimacy will be possible. The pleasure of feeling the power to attract sexual recognition including fond readiness for an encounter of appetites, is a deep gratification. All contrary to the polite and respectful norms of ordinary sociability, it is in the heart of sexual attraction to distinctly want this person of strange beauty to become involved with your genitals, as you want to become involved with theirs. Making love is partners getting mutually involved genitally in the context of both the discarded rules of ordinary sociability and the shocking mystery of the complementarity of different bodies. Somehow mutual attraction was constructed by immense evolutionary forces, by nature forming the sexes to fit together, erect penis into moist vagina, to experience ecstasy in fitting together in an almost pre-ordained culmination of the tidal attraction, the beauty and allure, fascination and excitement in the perfect strangeness of other people’s bodies, and the most conspicuous strangeness and beauty of other people’s genitals.
The heterosexual male’s susceptibility to feminine beauty is regrettably connected to a social and cultural edifice of truly dangerous and harmful misogyny, beginning even in the borderline harassment of gazing too long or too often. Visual attraction easily becomes objectification, shouldering out awareness of a person’s subjectivity, their dramas of caring, improvising heroically to create pathways out of their unique looming threats of misery.
Surrender and Mastery
There is in the expression of sexuality an important theme of being overpowered, of the profound pleasure of sex as ecstatic surrender, of surrender as its own distinct ecstasy. This could relate to the idea of God and the pleasure of conceiving an almighty Power to whom the only relationship is surrender, giving up the weight of caring personally over every detail, and instead opening into an existence of ecstatic acceptance. The other side of this, the thrills of mastery, is also at play in the sexual acts of partners. A common legend is that men will crave and expect thrills of mastery, among others things, when sexually approaching a woman. If a woman consents to engage with this man she might sometimes anticipate and crave the profundity of surrender. Of course these tides flow both ways and there is a distinct male reality of feeling ecstasy in being overpowered and engulfed by the multidimensional power and beauty of femininity.
The Approach, the Embrace, the Caress
The approach toward a person who has become sexually interesting is its own territory of pleasure and excitement, fear and hope. Even with signals of mutual pleasure in the appetites at play in this attraction, it is still a transgression, the crossing of a boundary, an act of high importance, of boldness, presumption. It takes high excitement and a certain reckless assertiveness expressing the overpowering appetite. It is always risky and vulnerable, with a distinct possibility of being ignored or rejected. Humiliation and ridicule are possible. The vulnerability of approach is modified by a person’s sense of their power to attract sexual attention. Some have more than others, and some take more advantage of it than others. For the people with high powers of attracting sexual attention the approach can become maybe too easy to be felt deeply.
Sexuality comes to be expressed in an approach to another person, intent on touching another’s body and being touched by them, feeling the heat and soft-hard physicality of a close and naked embrace. Here is another gateway because of the audacity of nakedness in the presence of the other, the audacity of undressing under the other’s gaze and of daring to undress them. There is a desperate desire, performed and enacted by undressing a partner, to expose and savour the whole naked skin and body, to advance the journey to a full and perfect knowing of the real presence of what was first adored from a distance, the beautiful person of the other. The sexualized touch, the sexualized kiss, is a caress that plays to and increases the rapt attention and pleasure of the lover. There is also a silent pleading for the lover to keep deepening acceptance of this hunger that is such a feature of sexual embodiment, and not only acceptance but delight in it, encouragement for it. Mutuality demands taking euphoric delight in the intersecting wantonness in the sexual embodiment in all lovers.
Taking Pleasure, Giving Pleasure, the Intimacy of Sharing Pleasure
In sexual contact with another person there is potential for a struggle between the impulse to take pleasure, and the impulse to give pleasure to the lover. Either partner might be egoistically inconsiderate of the other’s experience, indulging what excites themselves the most. It is not unknown for men to believe that the highest pleasure for a woman is his penis penetrating her vagina and moving so as to reach the height of his own excitement and energy, so simply by concentrating on taking his own best pleasure he will also be granting her hers. Sometimes, rarely, this might even be real but surely far more often it is not. The beauty of the beloved will surely command, most of the time, caresses meant to create pleasurable sensations for them at the same time as being an expressive act of worship and adoration. Either partner might sometimes take pleasure in being self-denying, focused strictly on the pleasure of the other.
The lover comes to learn another person’s pleasure centres, what kinds of caresses bring shades of ecstasy, when and whether to be light and slow or stronger, fast, harder. Progressions of rhythm and pulse. The legend is that the art of the caress is a main feature of the ability of a man to be a good lover to a woman. Bodies are individually complex, and there is much to learn. It is still the passion of adoration that moves the touch of the lover and is expressed in the caress. The momentarily surrendering partner will react with gasps and moans, rapid breathing and bodily movements to the pleasure being stimulated by the partner enjoying the thrills of mastery. These reaction are music to the ears of the active partner, inspiring and energizing him or her to keep going and improvise a continuing ascent, perhaps with pauses and teases. Lovers experience arousal and elation from skin to skin contact, especially total skin to skin contact, becoming literally electrified and enlarged, and males build toward the confident drive and strength to press open and enter the precious body of another person. The whole body but particularly the genitals of each lover caress the other, often moving toward the ecstatic caress in the erect penis penetrating the vagina and occupying and churning this interior of the woman’s body. The excitement, the super charged energy, the panting heat of the bodies, the sweat, the exertion, the heightened perception, hyper-sensitivity! This moves on a journey toward orgasm for each the lovers, unless they choose to delay and deeply savour arousal.
Orgasm
Men are often competitive about their mastery of skills that give pleasure to a partner. For men, lovemaking is often more about worshipfully bringing pleasure to a woman than about taking pleasure in devouring the woman’s sensual deliciousness and beautifully strange complementarity. This makes perfect sense because men are often ridiculously easy to bring to ejaculation, which is such an ecstatic outburst that it can be devastating to their whole level of energy. The life of an all-conquering lion is brief, the ecstatic frenzy of rubbing intimate skin against skin ends in a detonation, an ejection of hot fluids from the penis, leaving an oncoming pain from sudden oversensitivity, a literal shrinking down and falling out in deflated exhaustion, but nobody is ready or willing to accept an abrupt collapse! This can sometimes be overcome with prescription medications, and sometimes with youth and natural giftedness, but the general fact stands. It doesn’t take much experience with heterosexual sex before the overall intention of making love becomes, still in the context of all the pleasures already mentioned, to bring about the luminous female orgasm. Surely the peak sexual pleasure is holding your female partner as she experiences orgasm. It is a bursting forth, a flowering, a spasmodic illumination, a vibrating, fish-tailing, ecstatic letting go. The female orgasm is an apex of nature, love, and embodiment, giving an awesome glow to everything it touches. Having known this embrace, a person already has the top thing on any bucket list, a glow that means that life has been worth the struggle and is worth going on with.
Afterglow
Having peaked, the whole person, focused on the body and especially the genitals, is present in awareness in a heightened throbbing pleasure, content in the slow descent toward normal consciousness, next to the partner sharing the same calm after the storm.
Fantasies and Kinks
The particular ideas, acts, and encounters that bring ecstasy to any individual may go well beyond what has been described here. Except for injury and lack of genuine adult consent, it would be presumptuous to rule anything out. The improvisation of fantasies is entirely at the whims and impulses of the individuals involved, and surely should be embraced as a private theatre of freedom and privileged personal gratification.
It is often difficult for individuals to find a sexual partner and, given the excitability of normal human genitals and the inventiveness of human imagination, there is a great deal of sexual pleasure that does not require a partner. Solo sex, like all the rest when not at its worst, opens into ecstasy.
